Men drank at parties, Whatever the men say the women have to follow men had to be held responsible to get the food grown and harvested. The men could do whatever they wanted the men made their friends that are men entertained. Only the free men were citizens women, children, and slaves didn’t even have much freedom women, children, and slaves were not citizens women and children were not allowed to be in parties men have their own dining rooms in larger homes. The women had to wait for food and eat in the courthouse alone. Men can wander around the world if they want to and women had to stay at home all day there were a lot of dance parties that only men were allowed to attend. |
Women & Slaves Slaves cooked, and cleaned in houses and mined in mines and worked on ships. Slaves COULD NOT buy there way out of slavery Once you marry a slave you are a slave. So your children are slaves, Some people are sold into slavery by families. Some slave babies were thrown out to die. Slave were acquired during war and auctions.
Women had a little bit of freedom. Women couldn’t leave their house without their husband's permission. In a woman’s own house they are the boss. Women did all of the house chores and the men didn’t some of the women had slaves to do some or all of the work for them. The women ruled their central courtyard. The women could sit outside and enjoy the day. In sparta women were free people. In Sparta women did not need their husband's permission to leave the house. In Sparta the women could run business, trained warriors and attended military school. |
KidsWhen babies were born the Greeks celebrated the birth like a party. While dancing the father was holding the new born baby. The mother made wreath and put it on the door so everyone knew they had a newborn baby. Friends and family brought gifts for the newborn or parents. In Sparta if a newborn was not perfect it was left on the side of a hill. Sparta was not interested in raising a child that would not be a great warrior. Slaves and toddlers were working in the field,s until they were 6. Then they were taught by the mother. Children played a game almost the same as basketball. The kids had small carts that they pulled around, loved games that involved skills like tossing sticks into buckets and also listened to stories like Fables and Legends.

The kids played with rattles and small clay animals. One of the clay animals was a horse with four wheels on and string to pull it. These children played with yo-yos, dolls, and action figures made of both cloth and clay. If the family did not have enough slaves to do their work, the kids were expected to help in the house and fields. The kids had enough time to play with their toys. Dogs, birds, goats, turtles, mice, and cats were all included as pets to some families.
